Possibly the most popular area to visit in Costa Rica is La Fortuna. Filled with waterfalls, rainforest, hanging bridges, hot springs, wildlife, and a giant volcano, La Fortuna has a little bit of something for everyone. Its beauty, accommodations, and number of activities we did here, La Fortuna made La Fortuna my favorite area we visited in Costa Rica. The town is geared towards tourists and the area outside the town is filled with endless activities. Because everything is so close, within just four days we were able to visit hanging bridges, hot springs, waterfalls, white water rafting, rappelling, and horseback riding! We loved the area and the activities and would definitely visit again.
One of the main reasons why we especially loved our stay was because of Arenal Manoa Resort. Read more about our visit here. The private lodge-style rooms were incredible! The view from our room was one of the best we’ve ever seen from any hotel!
The main attraction of La Fortuna is the Arenal Volcano. Not wanting to miss this impressive volcano, before our trip I googled where the best observation areas for the volcano are located. After visiting the town of La Fortuna, I quickly realized that every area is a great viewing location. The volcano towers over the town so pretty much everywhere you go you can see the volcano. We had an incredible view of the volcano from our hotel window – Although the volcano is often covered by clouds, so it can be difficult to spot the peak!
If someone only had a few days to explore Costa Rica, I would highly suggest La Fortuna. It is super easy, convenient, and filled with activities. It is definitely a can’t-miss location in Costa Rica.
